The latest release of WingX Pro allows you to quickly add instrument approach waypoints to your flight plan.

WingX Pro released its first major update for 2014 with the introduction of version 8.0, available for download now in the app store.  In addition to the Pebble Smartwatch support we covered last week, this update adds a collection of new features that IFR pilots will especially appreciate. To access some of these new features you’ll need to make sure you have the upgraded WingX subscription, which is now called Advanced IFR subscription and replaces what used to be called the Georef Subscription. It’s just a name change, so if you currently have the Georef subscription you’ll automatically get the new features. Here’s a quick look at what’s new:

  • Instrument Approach Chart routing: select an instrument approach and initial approach fix and WingX adds all the fixes to your route.
  • Departure and Arrival procedure routing: you can now quickly add DPs and STARs to your route, including all the waypoints and transitions.
  • Moving map route colors: DPs are green, the en route segment is magenta, the STARs are blue, and the IAP route is red.
  • Support for the Pebble Smartwatch: view your next waypoint and destination information such as ETE, ETA, DTK, NM on your watch.
  • User-Documents: display them in WingX Pro7’s split screen (or full screen) — for example, a sectional on the left and the POH’s checklist on the right.
  • Performance improvements: expect better performance on the moving map and updates throughout the app for iOS 7 styling.
  • New “Split” button on map: alternates between full Route column, full A/FD Column, or 50/50 of each (as before).

You can download a 30-day trial of WingX Pro for $0.99 in the app store, and annual subscriptions start at $99.99.

since i upgraded to new version, “Adv IFR” turned red even though I have paid for the geo-referencing. What’s up with that ?

Red means your subscription has expired. If you go to the accounts section, it will list the dates and features that you have access to.

Please upgrade to 8.0.0.1. If you have an Advanced IFR subscription through WingX Pro7 (same as previous geo-ref subscription), you will see “Adv IFR” in green on the main menu page. If you have a geo-ref subscription through SA, you will see Geo-Ref in green on the main menu page.

Note: There is no new subscription, we simply changed the name of WingX Pro7’s ‘geo-ref’ subscription to “Advanced IFR” because is also includes the new IAP Routing (which is really cool IMHO).

        Eric,

We’re planning on uploading new videos on Friday or Saturday. If your demo expires before the end of this weekend, let me know and I’ll extend it.

Upgraded to 8.01 per suggestion to fix advanced IFR showing in red, Now GeoRef subscription is green as it should be. However, when you try to add an IAP to the route, you get a “advanced IFR Subscription required” error. While this may be one and the same sub, your code believes differently because of the name change. Please fix so we can use the features of 8. Thanks

for reasons that I don’t remember, I started with a Seattle Avionics subscription on WingX. so I either buy yet another subscription to a georef database or wait till sometime in 2015 for my current one to run out . those new features in “adv IFR” look great.

      Mike, Ted,

If you purchase(d) SA’s geo-ref subscription you get their geo-ref data and if you purchase(d) the WingX Pro7 geo-ref subscription (now called Advanced IFR) you get our geo-ref data and IAP Routing data. Not only does it not make sense to bundle our data with another company’s subscription, but SA understandably want pilots to use SA data (and know they’re using SA data) when they have an SA subscription.

      Thanks,

      Hilton

yup, I understand. but it means that I either wait till my subscription runs out or I buy an overlapping subscription to get the new features.

I have all of the subscriptions except fuel information. How do I add a star, dp or IPA to my flight plan ?

Anything in a list can be deleted by swiping your finger right-to-left over it – this is the standard iOS 7 gesture.

      Thanks,
