Flight Gear battery kits get a smart charging upgrade

Sporty’s Battery Pack Kits now feature Flight Gear Smart Magnetic Charging Cables.

Sporty’s has upgraded its Flight Gear Smart Battery Pack Kits by replacing the standard charging cables with new Flight Gear Smart Magnetic Charging Cables. The updated kits combine reliable backup power with real-time charging data and better cable organization—two welcome improvements for anyone flying with an iPad.

Available with either a 10,000 mAh battery for everyday flying or the 27,600 mAh MAX for longer trips, the kits package everything needed to keep multiple iPads, a phone, Starlink and other electronics powered from preflight through shutdown.

One of the more interesting features is the amount of information available while charging. Both the battery pack and the included charging cables feature built-in digital displays, allowing pilots to monitor charging wattage, battery status, temperature, and remaining capacity in real time. That offers a quick way to verify that connected devices are charging at their expected speed.

The included magnetic charging cables are designed specifically for cockpit organization. Built-in magnets allow each cable to coil neatly when not in use, helping reduce clutter in the cockpit and making it easier to store cords in a flight bag. The kit includes two USB-C to USB-C cables capable of delivering up to 100 watts of charging power and one USB-A to USB-C cable rated for up to 60 watts.

The larger MAX battery pack offers enough capacity to recharge an iPad mini approximately four and a half times or power a Starlink Mini for more than two hours. It also supports pass-through charging, allowing connected devices to continue charging while the battery itself is plugged into external power.

As with previous Flight Gear battery products, Sporty’s says both the batteries and charging cables were tested extensively in company aircraft with no issues.

As more pilots rely on iPads, portable ADS-B receivers, and even Starlink Mini for connectivity, dependable backup power has become another essential.
