ADS-B Traffic

Quiz: How well do you know the ADS-B traffic system?

1 min read

To say that the system surrounding ADS-B traffic is confusing would be an understatement. UAT, TIS-B, 1090ES, ADS-B Out, ADS-R, FIS-B and the list of acronyms goes on, but what is really essential to get accurate and reliable traffic in the cockpit?

Portable ADS-B receivers for the iPad (like the Garmin GDL 39 and the Stratus 2S) have made traffic in the cockpit much more accessible, but it can be challenging at times to know if you’re seeing everything that’s out there. Take this quiz and test if you can spot the traffic at 12 o’clock high or if you need to check your six.

1. As part of the FAA's NextGen ADS-B air traffic system, what is the service that provides the altitude, ground track, speed and distance of aircraft flying in radar contact to other aircraft equipped with ADS-B Out transponders.

As of yesterday morning, none of the developers had given the green light to update to iOS 11.2 yet. But then Apple released iOS 11.2.1 yesterday, so it will probably be a few days still before we hear update recommendations from them.
