Finding the right flight instructor can be a challenge for both student pilots learning to fly and existing pilots looking for help with currency or additional training. The easiest option is to head to a flight school and get matched up with the first instructor that has availability, but this is not always the best approach. You may not have much say in the pairing process or be able find the best instructor for your particular mission.
That’s where the Instructair app can help, developed by the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI). It allows students and licensed pilots to quickly search for CFIs and browse their bios and specialties to help find a good fit.
The app is free to download and use and only requires you to create a free account to get started. To find a flight instructor, select an aircraft category from the list of options, which includes airplane, rotorcraft, glider or lighter-than-air. There’s even an option to schedule drone training if you’re looking for help with remote pilot skills. Then, you can further filter by single and multiengine land or sea, and specify what type of training you’re looking to accomplish: sport, private, instrument, commercial, tailwheel, skis, aerobatic, flight review or CFI training.
Next, specify a search region (or use your current location) and you’ll see a map showing the location of nearby instructors based on your specified criteria. You can book an instructor right from the app, or type in some specific goals and needs and the app will help you zero in on the right CFI for your training objective.
Instructair verifies all instructors before listing them in the app, based on supplied credentials and proof of their instructor certificates. Payment is also managed right in the app eliminating any hassles with that task at the end of a lesson.
Participation in this online service as a CFI requires a NAFI membership. If you are not currently a member and want to be an Instructair CFI, NAFI is currently offering a free one-year Digital Membership – visit NAFI to learn more.
