WingX Pro7 now available for Android
Hilton Software recently released WingX Pro7 for Android, a product they announced earlier this year at Sun ‘n Fun. The app’s look and feel is very similar to the iPad version, so pilots familiar with that program will feel right at home using this new Android version. We hear from a lot of pilots that fly with an iPad but use an Android device for their primary phone, so this new version allows pilots to have the best of both platforms.
While the app’s layout and menu interface is very similar to the iPad, it doesn’t contain all the same features yet. It has all the essentials like digital charts, GPS moving map navigation, airport directories, E6B, flight planning and weather, but is missing the bells and whistles like ADS-B weather, synthetic vision, flight data recorder and terrain awareness.
One feature unique to the Android version that hasn’t made it to the iPad version yet is a direct integration with Lockheed Martin Flight Service. This allows you to skip DUATS and get weather briefings, file flight plans, and open/close/cancel flight plans right from the app.
You’ll have to pay $0.99 to buy the app in the Google Play store, but once downloaded it provides a 30-day free trial to test it out on your Android devices. WingX Pro doesn’t require a separate subscription for Android if you’ve already paid for the iPad version—just sign in with your existing account info to unlock the full version on your Android device.
