Sporty’s Pilot Training for Apple TV adds new interactive quiz feature
Sporty’s Pilot Training app platform has helped tens of thousands of pilots earn their pilot certificate, add new ratings, learn how to use a wide variety of advanced avionics systems and get checked out in new aircraft types.
It is famous for its relentless pace of innovation, bringing new content, new training tools, and technological enhancements every year.
Sporty’s Pilot Training offers pilots the ultimate flexibility in training, providing access to all of Sporty’s aviation courses on dedicated iPhone and iPad apps, an Android app, online and on the TV, using the included Apple TV app, RokuTV channel and Chromecast support.
The latest update focuses on Apple TV, with an all-new app for this popular TV accessory. In addition to incorporating a new streamlined interface to access any of Sporty’s 23 video-based courses, the new Pilot Training app for Apple TV adds the popular interactive video quiz feature to the Learn to Fly and Instrument Rating Courses.
It also includes a free Getting Started course to provide guidance for those looking to learn to fly, along with Sporty’s all-new Multiengine Training Course in 4K and Basic Aerobatics with Patty Wagstaff.
New interface and free course demos
The first thing you’ll notice after launching the Pilot Training Apple TV app is the new graphical course menu. Course access is front and center, similar to what you’re used to seeing in the online, iOS and Android versions. Each of the 23 courses now offers a demo mode, so you can preview the video content and learn more about each one before signing up.
If you’re a new user and interested in earning your Private Pilot certificate, you’ll also want to check out Sporty’s free Getting Started course, which is a 4-part series that explains the flight training process and how to start taking flight lessons.
Interactive video quizzes on the big screen
Sporty’s training courses are known for their real-world approach to training, focusing on in-flight video and sophisticated animations. The Learn to Fly and Instrument Rating courses also feature review quizzes after many segments, to help test your knowledge and reinforce key points.
These quizzes are now available in the new Apple TV app as well, bringing interactive learning right to your living room. After a video segment completes, you’ll have the option to start a quiz or continue to the next segment:
The quiz interface looks just like you’d find online or in the iOS apps, with multiple choice answers and access to figures as needed:
After completing a quiz, you’ll receive instant feedback on your performance and have the option to review each answer selection:
How to get the courses
You can purchases access to any of the aviation training courses right from Sporty’s website, including the 2021 Learn to Fly, Instrument Rating Course and Commercial Pilot Course. You’ll gain instant access to all the course platforms for one price. If you’ve already purchased one of these courses (both courses include lifetime updates), you just need to download the mobile app and sign in with your username/password or log in to Sporty’s Online Course Portal.
Each course purchase includes lifetime updates, allowing customers who previously purchased any of these courses to automatically receive the new features after updating to the latest version of the Pilot Training app.
Sporty’s also offers access to ALL its courses through the Flight Crew Membership program. After purchasing a monthly or annual subscription, you’ll have unlimited access to all the aviation courses Sporty’s offers, in addition to other benefits like free shipping and a free flight lesson at Sporty’s flight school.
There’s one last thing to point out, which can be a little confusing. The app requires you to use the physical Apple TV box connected to your TV, which includes a dedicated App Store just like your iPad or iPhone. Apple also offers an AppleTV+ video service available on most TVs sold today (LG, Sony, Samsung, etc.), which is designed to only play Apple’s original TV and movie programming, and not 3rd-party apps like Pilot Training.
