Sporty’s updates Android pilot training apps
Sporty’s Pilot Shop, and its educational division Sporty’s Academy, have been developing high-quality training products for pilots for more than 50 years. These products have taken many different forms over the years including live, in-person classes, VHS and DVD video, online courses, and now mobile phone and tablet applications. While many may know Sporty’s as a leading iPad and iPhone app developer in the aviation industry, Sporty’s also makes many of its popular applications available for Android as well. Several of these Android apps just received big updates last week, and here we’ll show you what’s new.
Sporty’s E6B for Android
The E6B app for Android mirrors the functionality of the popular handheld electronic version yet adds the convenience of a mobile app. It includes 23 aviation calculations, 18 conversions, time zone tracking and a timer. The latest version adds a new modern interface designed specifically for the latest release of the Android operating system. It also improves the layout for tablets, ensuring that all features are visible and accessible in both portrait and landscape orientations. The app is available for $9.99 in the Google Play Store, and the latest update is free for existing app owners.
Sporty’s Study Buddy for Android
Sporty’s Study Buddy provides a simple yet powerful interface for student pilots to study FAA test questions and take practice tests in preparation for the actual FAA test. Every question and answer includes a custom explanation written by the CFIs at Sporty’s to help you better learn the subject matter behind each question instead of relying on rote memorization. There are 4 separate Study Buddy apps available, one each for the Private, Recreational, Instrument and Commercial FAA tests.
The latest update brings the new FAA full-color figures supplement to the Private and Recreational apps, making it much easier to view and interpret the information required to answer certain questions. The figures are also now presented in an interactive viewer allowing you to to view any of the figures or legends at any time, and not just the ones specifically referenced in the question. All four apps include the latest FAA test question updates and were improved to be more user-friendly on tablets. The apps range in price from $9.99 – $14.99 in the Google Play Store, and the latest updates are available free for existing app owners.
