ForeFlight Mobile 4.4 lands in App Store with new features

ForeFlight docsOne of the best things about aviation apps on the iPad is the updates. If you’re not regularly checking the App Store app on your iPad, you’re missing some great new features–and they’re free.

A great example is ForeFlight Mobile, one of the most popular apps for pilots. This app is constantly being updated with performance enhancements and new features. The latest version, 4.4, has just hit the App Store, so be sure to go get your update.

The big new feature in this update is the new Documents tab. Tapping this brings up an impressive catalog of FAA documents–everything from the Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge to the legend pages from approach plate books. While you would probably never carry all this information with you in print, having it on your iPad can be a real convenience.

You can also import your own documents, including PDF, JPG, TIF, PNG and GIF files. A great use for this would be to import your airplane’s Pilot’s Operating Handbook (as a PDF) into ForeFlight. Now you’ll have performance data at your fingertips, without switching apps.

The Documents tab works just like the Plates binders, so organizing and downloading files is fast and easy. For more details, watch this video from the team at ForeFlight:
